QUERY LETTER | Sea Reverie by Via Reel
I’m seeking representation for my novel Sea Reverie, a 75,000-word work of literary magical realism that follows a young surfer girl’s journey through grief, myth, and transformation. After witnessing her father’s sudden death, Alex—a college freshman and aspiring journalist—finds herself unable to navigate the surface of ordinary life. But as her dreams grow stranger and symbols begin appearing in the sea, she is pulled into a mythic journey where grief becomes initiation and the ocean speaks with ancient, sacred memory.
Blending the emotional depth of literary fiction with the soul-stirring cadence of myth and magical realism, Sea Reverie will appeal to readers of Madeline Miller, Ava Reid, and Alice Hoffman—those drawn to archetypal themes, feminine transformation, and stories that walk the line between waking and dream.
I’ve spent over a decade as a high school English teacher and English Language Development educator. Prior to my time in the academic arena, I was deeply immersed in surf culture and the action sports retail industry—owning two surfboard companies, traveling with professional surfers, and sponsoring them on their journeys across the globe. My writing draws from a life lived at the intersection of myth, memory, ocean, and awakening. Sea Reverie is the first novel in my Left Reel series, a body of work meant to stir, inspire, and reclaim the mythic wild within.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I’d be honored to send you the full manuscript upon request.
Warmly,
V.
